Employers in Goochland County can take advantage of a number of workforce development resources, ranging from customized training programs at local colleges to state-based incentives and programs. We have everything you need to take your workforce to the next level.

Community College Workforce Alliance

The Community College Workforce Alliance is a partnership between J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and John Tyler Community College serving the workforce development and training needs in central Virginia. CCWA provides non-credit training, customized instruction, consulting, skills assessments, and other programs for government, corporate, non-profit, and educational employers in four cities and twelve counties.

In addition to courses and training for individuals, CCWA offers custom training programs for businesses in areas such as Workplace Technology, Leadership/Supervisory Training, Business Writing and Communications, Human Resource Management, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing, Project Management, and more.

Virginia Jobs Investment Program

The Virginia Jobs Investment Program (PDF) is an economic development incentive offered through the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. VJIP helps offset recruiting and training costs incurred by companies that are growing or implementing technological upgrades.

VJIP has helped over 2,500 companies, and is consistently ranked among the top 10 best workforce-training programs in the nation by Expansion Management magazine.

VJIP has three core offerings:

  • New Jobs Program - for companies or start-ups expecting significant growth in the next three years.
  • Small Business New Jobs Program - for companies or start-ups with no more than 250 employees and that are expanding in the next 12 months.
  • Retraining - for companies implementing major technological upgrades that will affect a large number of employees.

Goochland County Public Schools Career & Technical Education

Goochland County Public Schools, and the other school systems in the Greater Richmond region, offer career and technical education opportunities as part of regional efforts to promote and advance workforce preparedness. Students can take part in CTE programs and apprenticeship training in areas such as business and information technology, trade and industrial education, health and medical sciences, and more.
