CarMax, Inc., is the largest retailer of used cars in the U.S. CarMax opened its first store in Richmond, Virginia, in 1993. Today, the company operates more than 100 used car superstores across the nation. Customers can also browse more than 25,000 new and used vehicles online.

CarMax has sold more than 4 million cars, appraised more than 16 million vehicles, and employs more than 16,000 Associates. CarMax is a member of the FORTUNE 500 and the S&P 500, and they've been named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" eight years in a row.

Mission

CarMax was built on that idea that there had to be a better way to buy a used car. Their mission is to make the car buying process as easy and fun as possible by offering an honest, friendly experience where customers can find peace of mind. The CarMax approach centers on four customer benefits; low, no-haggle prices, a broad selection, high quality vehicles, and a friendly, no-pressure sales process.

CarMax's hard work and dedication doesn't stop at the customer experience, the company also puts a premium on being a thoughtful and engaged citizen. In 2003, the retailer established The CarMax Foundation, which promotes education, youth leadership, and wellness programs in the communities where associates live and work. The Foundation gives back by providing volunteers, matching gifts, and grants to worthy non-profit organizations. In fiscal year 2012, CarMax celebrated an incredible milestone; $10 million in total Foundation giving.
